What to Wear in the Caribbean

Many tourists assume they only need to pack a few pairs of short pants, shirts and a few bathing suits when packing for a trip to the Caribbean. This is perfect for enjoying the beach and other outdoor activities but is not suitable for evening attire. Leave the beachwear at the hotel when venturing out at night.

The inhabitants of Caribbean countries prefer not to see tourist in bathing suits in restaurants, bars and night clubs. Locals prefer to leave beach attire outside and dress more appropriately when indoors. It is recommended that tourist bring a set of clothes that is more appropriate for indoor activities such as dining, visiting a nightclub or other form of evening entertainment.

Appropriate attire for a night out includes pants and nice shirt for the guys and nicer clothes for the girls. No flip flops or tennis shoes. No t-shirts or beach related short pants. Nicer ( not for beach ) are also acceptable.

When visiting more European influenced nations like Martinique, Guadeloupe and St. Martin, dress codes are often enforced at restaurants and hotels.
